Technological Advances in food industry for monitoring food safety and for detection of unsafe food

Parthi Desai

Food safety forms a key part of the Food Industry. Once we move past the production processes, food safety is an important factor
which not only affects indivuals, but nations at large and their sustainable growth. A variety of analytical methods, equipment’s and
tools have been developed over the past few years for assuring consumers that the food the industry is providing is not only safe, but
also fulfills above and beyond expectations of the consumer. The highly perishable nature of food and the competition in the market
could be summed up as major reasons for the growing concerns related to food safety.
Technological advances are shaping the food safety sector like never before. Artificial intelligence systems, laboratory sensors, QR
codes, digital reporting systems are some of them. Artificial intelligence covers a large part of the enormously growing systems in the
sector. From robot kitchens to supply chain management, artificial intelligence contains a huge database which can help the managers
make important decisions. Digital reporting systems are reducing man-power, yet increasing the accuracy of the system. Similarly, wearable
technologies could bring in a transformation by better networking between the objects and stakeholders. Some other advances to
name could be e-tongue, e-nose, laboratory sensors. Nonetheless, these advances are just the tip of the iceberg, with many more brilliant
innovations coming up.
