Innovation of “Brinjaloo” at IUBAT by grafting eggplants onto potatoes

Eggplant (Solanummelongena) and potato (Solanumtuberosum) belong to the nightshade family. They are the most important winter vegetable of Bangladesh. Most of the vegetables in the same family, such as eggplant and potato, can be grafted to produce a plant called 'brinjaloo'. The upper part of the plant becomes the top of the plant and produces eggplant, while the lower or underground part produces tubers, i.e. potatoes.
