The hair collar sign is a rare malformation of the scalp that is often associated with central nervous system damage such as encephalocele, meningocele, and heterotopic brain tissue. We describe the cases of two male newborns whose mothers had positive viral infections during pregnancy and who had no associated nervous system malformations, but who had concomitant planus nevi of the skin.
