Fetal hydrops in a twin pregnancy

In an identical twin diagnosed in utero with fetal hydrops of unknown etiology, heart sounds were severely abnormal at birth and no heart sounds were detected. The diagnosis and autopsy results raised suspicion of an acardiac twin. The complications of the surviving twin may have been preventable with earlier diagnosis and increased awareness among healthcare professionals.
