To implement the exclusive breast milk program, breastfeeding mothers should have good knowledge. One way to acquire the knowledge is through nutritional counseling. The aim of this study was to influence the knowledge and attitude of breastfeeding mothers on nutritional status and nutritional counseling in Lubuk Pakam District Health Centers. This research is a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The research was conducted in Lubuk Pakam District Health Centers (treatment group) and PHC Tanjung Morawa (control group). The treatment group received nutritional counseling for three months, a total of three sessions. The study was conducted from March 2016 to August 2016. The results showed that knowledge was not different in both groups before the intervention (p=0.290), but was significantly different after the intervention (p=0.000). While the average weight gain of the infants in the first month was 1.25 kg in the treatment group, 1.19 kg in the control group and 1.44 kg in the second month in the intervention group, the paired tests conducted indicate that nutritional counseling has an influence on knowledge and attitudes in the intervention group.
