Effect of Flow Velocity on the Inhibition Efficiency of Low Carbon Steel Corrosion in Crude Oil

Laminu Shettima Kuburi

Effect of flow velocity of crude oil on corrosion inhibition of low carbon steel was investigated using the weight loss method. The coupons were immersed in inhibited and uninhibited crude oil for 24hrs, 48hrs, 72hrs and 96hrs. The flow velocity was varied for Reynolds numbers of 3705, 3054, 2220 and 734. Highest inhibition efficiency of 82% was recorded after 96 hours with neem seed oil (NSO). Lowest inhibition efficiency of 45.8% after 24 hours at Reynolds number of 734 was recorded in NSO. The result showed that the inhibitor performed very well with time under flow conditions with better performance at laminar flow.
